We love hearing how our gear gets tested in the real world. Sometimes it’s a hike, a festival, or a fishing trip. Other times, it’s something more demanding. This is Joseph Biener’s story — a Walkabout hat put through swamps, brush, golf courses, and even a search and rescue mission.
A Small Gesture, A Big Impression
Joseph first picked up his Walkabout hat at the Minnesota State Fair. What stuck with him wasn’t just the gear, but the people — “the guy running the booth even extended me an unsanctioned military discount. That small gesture stuck with me,” Joseph recalls. It was the start of an adventure that would prove the hat’s worth.
36 Holes, 8 Miles, and a Rescue Mission
In just four weeks, Joseph’s hat saw it all. A long day at the fair, 36 holes of golf, and over 8 miles of tough Minnesota terrain. He even wore it on a search and rescue mission in the National Forest north of Grand Marais.
“Trenching through swamp, crawling over deadfall, climbing through, up, and under dense brush — it was put through the wringer way harder than any hat should be… and it came out looking just as good as day one.”
Built to Last
What stood out to Joseph wasn’t just that the hat survived — but that it still looked great.
“It’s held up better than I ever expected, wears beautifully, and has proven itself in conditions most hats would’ve tapped out in. All in all, I’m damn proud to wear it, and even prouder knowing how hard I’ve worn it.”
