Born & Raised in old South Africa I was from an early age exposed to "wild adventures in the bushveld". Dad was a BBC news cameraman and director who took us places in his A36 Bonanza and C-210 Cessna. It was such a thrill to take off and go bush flying at such a young age. I remember one flight when dad let me take the controls,I must have been 11 years old. We were flying just above the treetops over the " highveld " ( portion of the South African inland plateau which has an altitude above roughly 1500 m, but below 2100 m) when he said to me " son keep an eye out for those trees ahead, make sure you dont hit them ! " as we buzzed the tops at some 210 miles an hour. We all know trees dont move, or do they ? Dad had a good laugh as he pulled us up and away, Those trees were Giraffe and yes, they do move !
Ever since then my "walkabouts" have taken me around Asia, New Zealand, Australia, N America and beyond.........In the weeks, months and years ahead I will be posting my blogs and stories, I hope you enjoy them as I do. Looking forward to your comments.
